High School Pro Advantage

Frequently Asked Questions

What is High-School Pro Advantage?

RIT Certified’s High School Pro Advantage is a 5-day immersion and experiential learning opportunity for high school students. Our goal is to give students a unique opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience in the industries they are passionate about.

Who can attend?

Rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Who will be teaching?

To guarantee hands-on experience and an introduction to the field, prestigious RIT faculty and leading industry experts have designed each course to provide students with a unique skillset they can’t get in the classroom alone.

When are courses offered?

Each course will run for 5 consecutive days from 9am to 5pm. Courses are offered in one of two sessions:

  • Session 1: July 15, 2024 - July 19, 2024

  • Session 2: July 22, 2024 - July 26, 2024

How much does the program cost?

Tuition is $1500 and includes lunch Monday - Friday. We recommend students bring a laptop or device with them for accessing their course learning management system. Additional supplies for classes are included in the enrollment cost, unless otherwise noted.

What if I want to stay on campus?

Room and Board is $450 for the week:

  • Double-occupancy dorm room Sunday night through Thursday night

  • Breakfast and dinner (lunch is provided as part of tuition)

  • Linens (one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, two towels, two washcloths, one cotton blanket, pillow and pillowcase).

When do I move in/out?

  • Residential students will move-in on Sunday between 2:00 - 5:00 pm

  • Move out will be on Friday evening between 4:30 - 6:00 pm

Can I stay over the weekend?

If you will be attending a class in Session 1 and Session 2, you have the option to stay on campus for the weekend. Room and Board for the weekend is $250, which includes room, meals, and off-campus activities.

If I am not staying in the residence halls, where do I park?

Information about parking will be sent closer to the start of your course. Note: you are not able to use your vehicle between 9am and 5pm when camp is in session, they are for transportation to and from RIT only.

What will students do when class is not in session?

RIT Certified will offer on-campus activities each evening for students staying on campus. More specific information will be provided as we approach course start dates.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes, RIT Dining Services can accommodate dietary restrictions students may have. We will ask for this information as we approach course start dates.

Can I take more than one course each week?

No, courses are designed to account for a full 40 hours each week.

What do I need for my course?

All supplies for courses are included in the enrollment cost unless otherwise noted.

Will I receive a grade or credits?

HSPA courses are non-credit. You will receive feedback on your work and will be issued a certificate upon completion of the course.

Are all classes in person?

Yes, this is an immersive experience requiring in-person attendance.

Will students be supervised at all times while on campus?

Yes, students will be supervised by instructors and staff for the duration of their time on campus. While they are not able to independently move about the campus, there are many supervised opportunities for students to explore all that the RIT campus has to offer.

How do I enroll in a course?

Go to https://certified.rit.edu/HSPA2024 to see a list of courses and to register online.

Are there scholarships available?

No, at this time there are no scholarships open to the public for the 2024 High School Pro Advantage courses.

What if I need to cancel my enrollment?

Courses can be dropped using our online portal until July 1, 2024. A full tuition refund will be provided, including room & board (if applicable). Cancellations July 1, 2024, or later will receive a refund of tuition, including room & board (if applicable), but there will be a $50 late cancellation fee.

Is transportation available?

If you are traveling from out of town and flying to Rochester, we recommend that you fly into the Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC), not to the airport in Buffalo. Even though the flight to Buffalo may cost less, Buffalo is at least an hour away, and the ground transportation from there to Rochester actually makes the trip more expensive.

Shuttle service from the Frederick Douglas Greater Rochester International Airport and the Louise M. Slaughter Amtrak train station (ROC) will be available by request.

Students will NOT have access to the RIT dorms to accommodate travel reservations.

Transportation will be provided for field trips associated with classes.
